Alayna Ward, Owner & Lead Consultant
Alayna Ward is a strategist, communicator and organizational leader who helps governments, non-profits and community organizations turn complex ideas into clear direction, compelling stories and practical results.
Over her career, she has helped clients across Canada secure millions of dollars in housing and infrastructure funding, strengthen public trust, navigate complex issues and create new economic and community opportunities.
Before founding Award Communications in 2015, Alayna worked across healthcare, the corporate and non-profit sectors, and the Government of the Northwest Territories. At the GNWT, she led communications for one of its largest departments, managing major public campaigns, crisis communications and executive communications for senior government leaders. She later served as Senior Policy Advisor to the Deputy Minister, providing strategic advice on policy, risk and emerging issues.
Through Award Communications, Alayna brings together communications, policy, funding and organizational strategy. She works particularly with Indigenous and local governments, non-profits, housing organizations and community-focused organizations seeking to strengthen their operations, secure resources, communicate effectively and create lasting benefits for the people they serve.
Her work is grounded in a practical understanding of northern and rural communities, government decision-making and the realities facing small organizations with ambitious goals.
Alayna has also served in board volunteer roles with organizations including the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce, Stanton Territorial Hospital Foundation, YWCA NWT and the International Association of Business Communicators.
